Adding your profile photo

Profile photos help your peers recognize you and increase the visibility of your research.

Having a photo on your profile is also a great way to increase your visibility to search engines – profiles with photos get up to 3 times more views than those without.

To add a profile photo, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Click on the default profile image on the top left-hand side
  3. Choose a photo from Google's image search of your name or click Click the Upload new photo button to upload one yourselfan existing photo, or the Take photo button to take a new photo
  4. Crop your photo as desired and click Save to confirm your changes.

Note: Images must be at least 180x180 pixels and no larger than 4MB. We support *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.gif, or *.png, and we suggest you use a photo that will fit inside the squarea circle.

Don’t forget: As ResearchGate is a professional network your profile photo and account should reflect this. Please don’t add a photo of anyone (or anything) else.

How can I crop my profile photo?

Change the size and selection of your profile photo by cropping it. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Click on your profile photo on the left-hand side
  3. Crop or move your photo
  4. Click Save to confirm your changes.

Deleting your profile photo

You can delete your profile photo by following these steps:

  1. Go to your profile

Want to add another photo? Follow the steps above.

I've deleted my profile photo, but it still shows up in search results

Once a publication, profile, or profile photo has been removed from ResearchGate, it is our policy that its old URL redirects to our main publications page or researcher index. We cannot control what the major search engines choose to keep on their search results, and it is often the case that after a few weeks these search results no longer appear.

Someone else has used my photo as their profile photo, what do I do?

If you are a ResearchGate member, you can report the user.

If you aren't a ResearchGate member, you can click Contact us and include the URL of the ResearchGate profile in question.
